Quick Take

  • Best for: Fans of mysterious psychological thrillers
  • Vibe: Intriguing, interesting, and at some points terrifying
  • Pace: Masterful
  • One-liner: A suspenseful psycho-thriller about a secret agency who steals peoples memories, and the quest of an elderly man's wife to break into his mind and steal the memories back.

Overview

Dissolution is an incredible story about love, about memories, and about how far people are willing to go in the name of power and control. When she finds out they have her husband--Maggie must dig deep into her past and search for the answers that only her husband can provide.

What Worked

The pacing of this book was absolutely incredible--Binge has his finger on the pulse of the reader from start to finish. In a story where time is both critical and irrelevant--Binge does an amazing job of keeping things clear for the reader.

I came back page after page for the 'what's next', and for the love story. There were so many beautiful passages--it's clear that Binge put a lot of heart into the relationship between Maggie and Stanley. After reading the Acknowledgements that made a lot of sense, and it made the story even more special to me.

What Didn’t

This is just a personal preference, but I WISH the professor would have made an appearance at the end. I really came to love that old blind man, and was pulling for him to come in and give a wink at the end of the story.

As for technical critiques--I honestly don't have any--this book, and Binge's writing, was a breath of fresh air--and I only wish I'd heard of him sooner!

Favorite Moment / Quote

"Reality only exists-is only created-as it's observed. If no one hears the tree fall in the forest, there wasn't a tree at all."

"If the present only exists when it's observed, what if the past only exists because it's remembered?"

"If there's one thing I've learned through all of this, it's that the most important thing we have is our memories."

Who Should Read This

This book really appeals to a wide variety of readers, but fans of psychological thrillers MUST read it.
