What does it mean to me to be a father?

I know this sounds like a silly question, it’s easy to explain right? Merriam Webster defines a father as “a male parent”, or “a man who has begotten child”. However, being a father is so much more than that.
Being a father means being vulnerable, patient, and accessible at all times. Being a father means teaching your kids how not be afraid of making mistakes, while also making sure they’re learning from their mistakes.
Being a parent is something I always knew I wanted to do – and now that I am a father – I continually remind myself of that, because being a father can be HARD!
I’ve had a thought for the past few years that I wanted to write a book about how difficult parenting is. I don’t think I’m an expert on this topic, but I feel like I’m good at talking to people. I want to interview parents from all different generations, ethnicities, upbringings, and parenting styles. I would like to employ these interviews to find out what other parents find hard, and compile some advice for new parents.
If you would be interested in being interviewed, leave a comment below or e-mail me at contact@literaldad.com and we can start the discussion.
At the end of the day, I love being a father, there’s no greater joy in the world than watching my daughter giggle and ask me to tickle her. My son and daughter both will still come snuggle me on my recliner and I take pride in being their safe space. I pray that I’m able to be the guiding light in their life and lead them down a path to a successful life.
